The past, we all know, cannot be resurrected, but the History Club certainly can. It's time to bring the History Club/Phi Alpha Theta back to life at EWU.
I, as one of the two faculty advisors for the EWU chapter, am eager to get the group meeting again on a regular basis, as well as start planning for our journey to the next NW PAT Conference, to be held in Missoula, MT on March 27-29.
First things first...
1. MEETINGS
The club should meet at least monthly, and at a time convenient to the members. May I any of you who are interested to reply to me and let me know which of these times work best for you on campus meetings:
Monday (noon - 1)
Wednesday (noon - 1)
Friday (noon - 1)
Other times?
2. 2025 Phi Alpha Theta Northwest Regional Conference in Historic Downtown Missoula
For those who haven't presented at PAT NW before, we will organize a group excrursion from Cheney to the conference, this year in Missoula, MT, and support each other as we present our research papers at a student but professional-caliber conference. Partipicants must submit abstracts for acceptance, a process I will oversee with you before the deadline of February 7. There may also be history department funding to help you pay for travel and lodging expenses. Again, things we must talk about at an upcoming meeting.
For more information:
- See the attached Call for Papers. NOTE: There is no Zoom option at this conference; in-person presentations only.
- Check out the conference's webpage for conference, lodging, and leisure information: https://www.umt.edu/history/undergraduate/phi-alpha-theta/2025conference.php
Let me know if you no longer wish to be on this listserve. Maybe you've graduated, lost interest, etc.
Let me know if you wish to help me in recruiting students to the club, via visits to history classes, among other methods.
Let me know if you are interested in serving in an officer role - all of which are currently vacant.
4. Ideas for Activities, Fun
Let me know what you'd like the club to do this year and beyond - activities, field trips, speakers, movie nights, trivia events, projects, etc. Past clubs have done almost anything that their members and their ambitious officers have set out to do, so the sky's the limit. And there's money to be accessed from ASEWU. Let's get this conversation going!
Thanks, everyone. I can't wait to hear from you, and can't wait to work with you and bring the History Club/PAT back to life here at EWU.
Best,
Professor Lenti
