Come learn all about a new history course, offered in Summer I 2025, that will include an 8-day travel program in Costa Rica (July 21 – July 28). Students who take this course will complete assignments on Zoom prior to departure, and then travel to Costa Rica together to visit and meet residents of a precario (shantytown) in San José, tour a coffee and cacao plantation, explore the Cloud Forest of Monteverde, assess public history practices at Santa Rosa NP and other museums, and interrogate methods of ecological and leisure commodification at beaches and tourism sites. This travel program accompanies HIST 318-02, which begins in Summer I (June 23). There will be a course fee of roughly $1,700, which is in addition to tuition and does not include airfare. No Spanish proficiency is required.
